Behind the Scenes: When the Cheese A-List Convened in Denver
Last month, the best cheesemakers in America gathered in Denver (for the first time ever) to take part in the American Cheese Society’s (ACS) annual conference. We’ve followed this conference to Louisville, KY, Providence, RI, Des Moines, IA and more, so it was awesome to have it in our backyard. And we really made the most of it.
Kim was Conference Co-Chair. Working alongside the fabulous (and Denver-based staff) of ACS and her amazing co-chair, Theresa St. Peter, Kim helped put together the agenda for the event, including pre-conference tours and a cheese pub crawl.
Steve was a Judge! Our founder, Steve, was chosen as one of 42 judges from around the country to select the winners in the “Cheese Oscars.” This is a BIG, BIG deal and speaks to the respect he has among his peers in terms of selecting the best of the best for our shop.
C+P Held a Blowout Cheese Block Party! The day before the conference we partnered with ACS and the Oldways Cheese Society to throw a block party in our courtyard so our customers could meet some of the cheesemakers, taste new cheeses from them, enjoy live music and tasty libations from Diebolt Brewery. We expected around 100 people, but more than 600 of you showed up!!! You guys rock.
We also used it as an opportunity to expose some of our local foodie faves to all the non-CO retailers in town for the event. Here’s looking at you OO Mommie, JoJo’s Sriracha, The Real Dill and Elevation Charcuterie.
We Went to “Cheese School.” Industry conferences are usually boring and dry. Not cheese conferences! We went to sessions such as “Chocolate, Cheese + Beer,” “Cider + Cheese,” “Cheese R&D: Taste Our Experiments,” and so much more.
And the Cheese Oscars. More than 2,000+ cheeses competed in more than 100 categories for the most prestigious honors in the cheese world. The awards ceremony is the highlight of the cheese community each year. We sat with the Colorado delegation and were on our feet as they won nine awards. GO Colorado!
The Festival of Cheese! And then we tasted as many of the entries as we could at the closing event. Think of it as the GABF for cheese. And we were excited to see that more than 50 of our customers used our C+P discount code to join us at the event.
