Five Ways to Celebrate (Four are Free!)
It’s Cheese Christmas!!! Ok, not really. But pretty close. October is American Cheese Month, which means a 31 glorious days of American cheesy goodness. (And we don’t mean those orange plastic wrapped slices!)
If you know us, you know we are passionate advocates of American farmstead cheese, in part because we spent a couple years building a sheep farm/creamery to be part of it, (Want to see some pics? Here you go!) but also because we think a lot of American cheeses can go head-to-head with imported cheese.
Now that we are on the retailing side of the business, it’s our passion to share the stories behind the cheeses in our case. You see a case full of cheese. We see a case full of stories. So we’re excited to celebrate American Cheese Month with five events to help you taste and learn about some of our favorite American cheeses.
Free Cheese Tasting Bars
For the first four weekends in October, we’ll have a complimentary tasting bar featuring a specific state or region in the U.S. There’s no charge to participate and no reservations are required. Just stop in the store between 11 am and 2 pm. Here’s the schedule:
- October 1-2: Vermont
- October 8-9: The South
- October 15-16: The West
- October 22-23: Wisconsin
Award-Winning Cheese Class Oct. 6
Every year the American Cheese Society holds the “Cheese Oscars.” In honor of American Artisan Cheese Appreciation Month, we’re hosting a very special pairing class to explore some of this year’s award-winning American cheeses, paired with American wines. We’ll tell the story of the cheesemakers behind these “best in class” cheeses.
Get the Passport
The American Cheese Society is selling a special passport for $10 that entitles you to discounts around the city and around the country. And the best part is that it all goes to a good cause.
Revenue from select American Cheese Month events will support the American Cheese Education Foundation. Get your passport at Cheese+Provisions. Learn more here.
