Be Healthy. Lose Weight. Eat More Cheese?
Clearly as owners of a cheese shop, we don’t need a REASON to #EatMoreCheese. After all, you can often find Steve in the shop wearing his “That’s Too Much Cheese. Said No one. Ever” t-shirt in case there is any doubt as to his feelings about cheese consumption.
Now, though, we can also feel good about what used to be considered an indulgence. There is a growing body of
research making the case the cheese is not only delicious, but it’s also good for you! Among cheese’s many potential health benefits:
- Faster metabolism/weight loss
- Higher rates of “good” cholesterol
Quoting from a recent article in The Telegraph:
A group of researchers from the University of Copenhagen found that eating cheese could help to improve health by increasing our levels of“good” high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol – thought to offer protection against cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
This isn’t the first time a study has linked cheese to good health. A recent study from Japan found that cheese consumption prevents fat accumulation in the liver and has the potential to improve serum lipid parameters – how we measure for cardiovascular risk.
Meanwhile, a small 2015 study found that cheese could be the key to a faster metabolism and reduced obesity.
In 2012, research suggested it was specifically Roquefort cheese that helped guard against cardiovascular disease, leading to good health and longevity, while in 2009 an Australian study suggested a diet high in dairy products, such as cheese, could help overweight people lose weight.
